Climbing wall

Theo was having a very exciting 6th birthday including the installation of a climbing wall in his bedroom. His Mum asked me to make this vanilla jam and buttercream sponge in the shape of a climbing wall, complete with Theo clambering up it for his party. How wonderful. Climb carefully Theo.

Sunshine and flowers

Linda has asked me to make several cakes for her family over the years. Now it is her turn. Her husband contacted me and requested a lemon layer cake to celebrate Linda’s 70th birthday. She is a bit of a sun worshipper and loves her garden. Geoff was very specific about there being sugar dahlias and daisies on the cake as well as her sun-cream and sunglasses, so here we are. I delivered it to Ray’s Italian Kitchen ready for her party this weekend, Hope you all had a good time.

Field sports cake

Maggie and Rick’s son J works hard and plays hard. He enjoys the shoot so Maggie asked for something that reflected this for his 50th birthday lunch with the family. Turns out he went off shooting after the lunch which was extremely fitting. This is icing camouflage and then hand-cut sugar silhouettes with a couple of sugar feathers to finish it off. Inside is a classic jam and buttercream vanilla sponge cake.

80th golf cake

Di organised a big day to celebrate her 80th birthday with family and friends at home. As well as making a small mountain of scones, some lemon drizzle cake and an egg free chocolate cake, Di asked me to ice this lovely rich fruit cake that she had made herself. She has spent a life time involved in golf and came up with the idea of the design of her cake. Translated into sugar with a few additional embellishments, here it is. I hope you had a wonderful day Di.

80th silhouette cake

Paul is enjoying a full and varied life and has had a wealth of experiences over the years, starting off in the tank corps of the army and then going on to excel in all sorts of sports and pastimes. Denise asked if I could make an 80th birthday cake to reflect all of this. So here we have a rather smart black, white and gold creation featuring sugar silhouettes around the sides. Inside are two cakes – one lovely farmhouse fruit cake (Paul’s favourite) and the other a vanilla madeira layered with raspberry jam and buttercream. They are stacked on top of each other and iced as one. The cake survived a journey to Devon and formed the centrepiece for his surprize party with family and friends.

Owl cake

Fearn’s family love owls and this year her birthday party has taken on the owl theme. Fearn’s grandparents always organise her cake and asked me to make this one with a rather solemn looking but endearing sugar owl perched on the top.

Jane’s flower garden

Beth’s mum is a keen gardener and fills her garden with beautiful flowers. Here is her birthday cake – a jam and buttercream filled vanilla sponge decorated as a pretty garden with pink roses climbing up the sides. All edible and a treat for the family party

Richard’s vegetable patch

Richard is 80 this weekend. He is a keen gardener and his wife Liz asked me to make this surprise vegetable patch cake for their weekend away with the family. Inside is a vanilla sponge layered with jam and buttercream. On top are sugar vegetables (yes even sprouts) set in chocolate soil with a pair of wellies, a spade and a jolly robin on the top. I hope you all have a lovely time.

Scottish Birthday

There is a double birthday in this family so Jenny ordered a gluten free vanilla sponge filled with jam and buttercream so that everyone can celebrate together. Decorated with tartan ribbon, thistles and flags and of course a jolly highland cow in the middle, I hope this is Scottish enough for you all!

Hearts and Cosmetics

Tia’s 16th birthday is later this week and she is off to New York. So her family are celebrating this afternoon and her Gran asked me to make this heart-shaped vanilla sponge, layered with jam and buttercream, featuring her favourite e.l.f. cosmetics

Have a god birthday and fabulous trip Tia
