Elaine wanted a simple cake in very particular colours to celebrate her daughter and son-in-law’s 30th wedding anniversary. Inside was a vanilla and peach coloured marble cake, split with buttercream, to remind them of the peach coloured dresses their bridesmaids wore. The red writing and decorations allude to their first dance – Lady in Red. Congratulations.
It has been Pearl and Stephen’s 50th wedding anniversary this weekend. Pearl was determined that she only wanted something very plain, but such has been the splendiferousness of their celebrations that they needed these two big rich fruit cakes plus two smaller extras, not to mention some similarly iced sponge cakes for the week after next. Congratulations to you both, I hope all the parties went to plan
Kate’s parents celebrated their golden wedding last month. She particularly wanted a simple elegant cake that featured the lily of the valley and stephanotis flowers that her mother carried 50 years ago. So I have made the sugar bouquet and tiny white flowers around the sides to echo the broderie anglais of the bridesmaid’s dresses. I added a sugar bow and a sprinkle of shimmer powder to finish it off. Congratulations Gill and Stuart.
Wendy and Chris wanted a chocolate extravaganza for their family gathering in Dorset this weekend. They are celebrating 50 years of marriage so deserved something indulgent. These are dark chocolate Madeira cakes filled with black cherry jam, smothered in chocolate fudge and then covered in chocolate fondant. Add lots of gold stars and a bit of sparkle and here is a celebration cake to suit everyone. Happy Anniversary Wendy and Chris.
Anne and Jack are travelling to the Lake District to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with their family. Anne carried a bouquet of yellow roses on her wedding day (as did I actually) so this fresh lemon curd filled lemon cake has a sugar version of the same. Congratulations both of you, have a wonderful time with your family
Simple lemon Madeira cake filled with homemade lemon curd was under the sugar gerberas and celebratory bunting.
Florence and Michael were celebrating 40 years of marriage with a weekend of celebrations with their friends. We went for a rich fruit cake decorated with ruby roses, an edible photo of their wedding day in 1978 and sugar ‘snapshots’ of their lives here on the South Coast and in Tenerife. Happy anniversary to you both.
Rachel’s parents in law, Ian and Anne were renewing their wedding vows 50 years after they first made them. The service was to be followed by a party for all their friends and relations- all 75 of them. So, she asked for a big Madeira cake decorated with golden roses and three tiers seemed the best way to go about it. Congratulations Ian and Anne, Happy anniversary to you both.
I found out that Ian and Anne had the cake ‘piped in’ and they sent a picture of their grandson doing the honours.
Joyce and Colin have been married sixty years and are having a party for family and friends to celebrate. I decorated this rich fruit cake in ice blue and white with a handful of sugar diamonds. Congratulations to you both.
Vivien contacted me via Streetlife and asked if I could make a cake to celebrate 30 years of the splendid Lymington Town Tours. (If you haven’t been on one, they are a really great way to uncover local history). We made a large plain Madeira cake with a jam filling and decorated it with Lymington landmarks in the organisation’s colours of cream and green. 30 candles finished it off. I understand the party went well and those not there got a slice of cake parcelled up in front boxes from Waitrose!
