Star Wars

Oliver’s mum asked me to make a Star Wars themed cake for his 5th birthday. She has all the character models at home so we just needed a midnight blue cake with stars and a suitable logo. Inside is a chocolate layer cake made with organic ingredients as far as possible. Over to mum to finish the decorations.

Just Ottering

Mags held a party in her garden to celebrate her 65th birthday. She has a particular penchant for sea otters and so Ian asked if I could make a cake with a sea otter floating on it for her. Of course.. and look at the wavy candles i found! I couldn’t resist adding the chicken as I knew that a couple of days earlier four new chickens had come to live in their hen house. I love doing cakes like this.. Happy birthday Mags x

50th cake for a very busy lady

Sarah and her family were gathering in Devon to celebrate sister Clare’s big birthday. Sarah gave me a long list of Clare’s interests including gardening, walking, DIY and of course her pug. Apparently she is also known for having an extremely overcrowded diary. Underneath all these sugar models is a big chocolate sponge – Sarah sent me a photo and said that it had been a success. I’m just glad it made it to Beer in one piece – it was sooo hot!

Golfing 80th

Penny is a keen golfer and Ian asked me to make a cake with a model of her putting on a green on the top. This is a lemon cake iced in fondant to look a bit like the golf course. Penny is wearing her club colours but I fear it looks as though she is going to miss that putt unless there is a bit of a swing on the green! Happy birthday Penny

Ninjago

Henry loves his Lego and this Ninjago character is the favourite currently. His mum found a picture of a cake that would fit the bill so I made a lemon layer cake and iced it to suit. Happy birthday Henry

Travel Wine and Horses!

Janine organised a surprise party for her husbands 80th birthday. Peters interests are horse-racing, holidays and wine and they like both chocolate and lemon cake. So the eight is a lemon cake filled with lemon curd and decorated with sugar wine bottles and holiday paraphernalia. The zero is chocolate cake iced to look a bit like a race track with sugar railings. Janine popped some little model race horses on it and we had all bases covered. Not so easy hiding a giant cake until it was needed but hey ho..

Petanque club celebration

Back at the start of the summer, New Milton Petanque Club had a grand opening of their two new terrains. I was asked to supply a suitably celebratory fudge filled chocolate cake for the occasion. I understand the newly elected mayor dignified the occasion and that it all went well,

Pokemon

I’ve made cakes for Theo’s birthday for several years now, he is eight already! This year Pokemon is the theme for this chocolate layer cake. His mum likes me to use organic ingredients as far as possible, which I am more than happy to organise. Happy birthday Theo

Lil’s Bowling cake

I made a cake for Emma’s Dad last year, and now it was his partner Lil’s turn for a big birthday. I had a very particular request for a chocolate sponge covered in chocolate buttercream. On top is Lil herself in her bowling kit surrounded by gardening paraphernalia and her favourite white and purple flowers. Emma managed to transport it over to Swanage without incident and it lasted until it was needed on party day. Happy birthday Lil.
