Lil’s Bowling cake

I made a cake for Emma’s Dad last year, and now it was his partner Lil’s turn for a big birthday. I had a very particular request for a chocolate sponge covered in chocolate buttercream. On top is Lil herself in her bowling kit surrounded by gardening paraphernalia and her favourite white and purple flowers. Emma managed to transport it over to Swanage without incident and it lasted until it was needed on party day. Happy birthday Lil.

Trampolining party

Fearn had a trampolining party to celebrate her birthday this year. Here is a jam and buttercream sponge trampoline cake with a model of Fearn jumping in the middle of it. I hope you had a lovely time Fearn, I can’t believe you are eight – it seems only yesterday that I was putting Peppa Pig on your third birthday cake!

Computer cake

A little while ago I made another birthday cake for Jack. It has become something of an annual tradition to have a big white square cake with blue and white bunting and a different aspect of Jack’s life modelled on the top. This year it was his computer and headphones. I understand your party was a great success again Jack. Many happy returns

Cat’s whiskers

A double celebration lunch today. Cheryl and Lin both had birthdays this week but way more exciting than that, they are soon going to have two new adorable kittens living with them. In anticipation, here is the lemon layer cake in rather stylised cat form which they have plunged a knife into and recklessly consumed this afternoon. Happy birthday and congratulations on your imminent new family members.

Road Cyclist

Ian is a keen road cyclist and celebrated his 80th birthday with his family. To add to the fun, Penny asked me to make him a cake for them all to enjoy featuring his beloved blue bike. So here is the lemon layer cake, decorated to fit the occasion.

Rosie’s first birthday

Annie contacted me through FB messenger to ask if I could make a cake for her daughter’s first birthday. She sent me some pictures from the internet of the sort of thing that she liked and after a chat on the phone we came to a decision. Inside this pretty cake is a Victoria sponge layered with jam and buttercream. The cake is covered with more buttercream and decorated with handmade models. Happy first birthday Rosie.

Vintage Tractor cake

Derek used to drive an Oliver Super 55 tractor back in the day. Now he is celebrating his 95th birthday with his family and Rosemary asked if I could make a Victoria sponge look like his tractor… Well I’m not sure this one would make it across a ploughed field but it was fun to make and pretty much entirely edible. I understand that the younger relatives were tucking into the remains of it for breakfast the next day..Very many congratulations Derek.

Lawn Bowls and Scrabble cake

Emma’s Dad Tony loves a game of scrabble and is a keen lawn bowler. For his 80th birthday celebrations Emma asked me to combine the two on top of a classic Victoria sponge layer cake. Here is a (rough) representation of Tony in his match kit, alongside a scrabble grid with all his names on it. Hope you all had a lovely time

Sporty Golden Wedding

Liz and Martin celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a family party at Chewton Glen. They are both keen sports players – Liz of tennis and Martin of golf and they particularly wanted a cake that would reflect those interests. Inside is a lemon sponge layered with home made lemon curd. On top are a sugar golf club and tennis racquet and a pretty golden message. Congratulations to you both.

Rainbow Butterfly Cake

This is a pretty cake. The design was sent to me by Jenny and we recreated it for Ella’s birthday party. This three layered chocolate cake is covered in yellow buttercream and rainbow of butterflies. Hope you had a lovely day Ella
