Cats, sharks and seaweed…

A little while ago I was asked to make a slightly off the wall cake for an informal wedding. The Groom has a deep interest in sharks, with his particular favourite being Hammerheads. The Bride is fascinated by edible seaweed….. and they have a cat. So I was charged with getting them all onto this layered Victoria sponge cake. Roses might have been more conventional. I understand it went down very well. Congratulations to you all.

Cruise Liner Wedding Cake

Claire and her new husband John met on a cruise on the Queen Mary 2. They got married today and asked for this layered lemon cake to be iced to reflect their love of the sea, topped with a sugar cruise ship. They are booked on another trip on the QM2 for their honeymoon. Congratulations to you both, I hope you had a wonderful day.

John and Maggie’s golden wedding

Maggie and John celebrated 50 years of marriage this weekend with an informal garden party for their friends. They chose a lemon layer cake iced with sugar models of the three things they felt represented them the best.. their first car a Morris 1000 Traveller, their joint passion for gardening and their beloved dog Matt. There is a very subtle nod to the goldenness of their anniversary in the colour of the writing and trim but nobody is really counting are they? Congratulations to you both.

Macaron Cake

I’ve made a few cakes for Jenny and her family over the years and this time she wanted something a bit indulgent to celebrate her sister’s 50th birthday. This is a five-layered pink and white sponge filled with buttercream and jam and iced in pink and white stripey buttercream, On top are raspberry macarons and fresh strawberries and it is crowned with a sparkly, pink, bespoke topper. hope the family had a super day,

Scottish Birthday

There is a double birthday in this family so Jenny ordered a gluten free vanilla sponge filled with jam and buttercream so that everyone can celebrate together. Decorated with tartan ribbon, thistles and flags and of course a jolly highland cow in the middle, I hope this is Scottish enough for you all!

Hearts and Cosmetics

Tia’s 16th birthday is later this week and she is off to New York. So her family are celebrating this afternoon and her Gran asked me to make this heart-shaped vanilla sponge, layered with jam and buttercream, featuring her favourite e.l.f. cosmetics

Have a god birthday and fabulous trip Tia

Paintballing party cake

Arthur and Louis are going paintballing this afternoon for their 11th birthday. Here is a chocolate fudge layer cake covered in chocolate buttercream and dripped with white chocolate ganache. hope you have a great time boys.

Singing Friends

Margot’s birthday has come round again. This year she wanted her and her five best friends singing their hearts out around a microphone. All on top of a sticky chocolate fudge layer cake. her mum sent me photos of them all so that I could at least get them mildly recognisable! I know you had a sleepover with them all Margot, I hope the rest of your day was as much fun.

Minecraft cake

Sam’s latest passion is Minecraft and his mum asked me to make a cake with some of the characters and weapons on the top. She showed me some pictures of the sort of thing that she wanted. Underneath the pixelated icing is a sticky chocolate fudge cake. Everything is of course edible… just right for a party of 6 year olds.

Matilda cake topper

I’m going to be away for Angus’s sister’s birthday so her mum asked if I could make a sugar Matilda to go on the top of her home made cake. Here she is. All Rachel has to do now is do a bit of baking.
