The Mask

Christine’s partner Neil chose to have a cartoon character themed fancy dress party to celebrate his 50th birthday. He chose to go dressed as Jim Carey in The Mask and after a few different ideas we came up with this simple but effective design which would cater for the large number of guests. The bottom tier is a raspberry and buttercream vanilla sponge and the top is lemon cake with homemade lemon curd between the layers. Everything is completely edible – I was particularly pleased with the sugar hat and the vivid colours are certainly eye catching. I am sure you all had a fabulous time. Happy birthday Neil.

Joint heroes birthday party

There was a bit of a drama surrounding the cake for this joint birthday party and I was asked rather last minute to make one to fit the bill. Three Dulcie, Clayton and Barney were all sharing a 5th birthday but with very different heroes and heroines so half Frozen and half Spiderman was the compromise. Inside was a victoria sponge layered with jam and buttercream. Hope you all had a lovely day.

Dachshund cake

Jack’s birthday has come round again and each year he has a big party to celebrate, during which he raises funds for Oakhaven Hospice. Jack had a cake with blue and white bunting last year and he wanted the same this time round but also a sugar model of his wire haired dachshund Lola. Here it is, they sent me a picture of Jack with his cake, by then adorned with indoor fireworks. Glad you had a good evening Jack

The Tiger who came to Tea

‘Sophie opened the door and there was a big, furry, stripy tiger’….The Tiger that Came to Tea is Arthur’s favourite book and so for his third birthday his dad asked me for a cake on that theme. I loved doing this! There is a chocolate layer cake under the tablecloth, a real mini chocolate cake on the table and everything else is made from sugar. I hope you enjoyed eating it as much as I enjoyed making it Arthur.

Number One Giraffe

Little Chloe loves pictures of animals, particularly giraffes, lions and monkeys. She also is extremely good at finding the hidden ladybirds and bees in the pages of her picture books. She had her first birthday party last week and what better than to decorate a number one cake with jungle animals for her. Happy birthday gorgeous girl.

Climbing wall

Theo was having a very exciting 6th birthday including the installation of a climbing wall in his bedroom. His Mum asked me to make this vanilla jam and buttercream sponge in the shape of a climbing wall, complete with Theo clambering up it for his party. How wonderful. Climb carefully Theo.

Owl cake

Fearn’s family love owls and this year her birthday party has taken on the owl theme. Fearn’s grandparents always organise her cake and asked me to make this one with a rather solemn looking but endearing sugar owl perched on the top.

Hearts and Cosmetics

Tia’s 16th birthday is later this week and she is off to New York. So her family are celebrating this afternoon and her Gran asked me to make this heart-shaped vanilla sponge, layered with jam and buttercream, featuring her favourite e.l.f. cosmetics

Have a god birthday and fabulous trip Tia
