100th birthday cake

Gwen had her super-milestone birthday coming up and Chris asked if I could make a cake for her mum to share with her family as well as some matching cupcakes that she could distribute among her friends. Chris had seen a cake on this Facebook page that she liked the style of and asked for similar decorations on a jam and vanilla sponge. So here we are. Very many congratulations Gwen and many happy returns.

Roses, freesias and white chocolate

Sarah and Steve sing in the same choir as me. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last weekend with friends and family from all over the world. Sarah wanted a lemon and white chocolate sponge big enough to feed everyone and decorated with the yellow roses and freesias that she carried in her bouquet 40 years ago. I also made a few gluten free lemon and white chocolate cup cakes for those that preferred them. Very many congratulations to you both.

Cupcakes and roses

Jack and Jess decided on a cup cake wedding cake with a small sponge topper cake for the stand. Jess made the cupcakes but asked me to pipe the buttercream as cream flowers, and also to make the top tier with some big white sugar roses and daisies on the top. Jess added her own little flowers to the cup cakes and I think the finished result looked lovely. A great joint effort and congratulations to you both.

Beano Birthday

Amanda showed me some pictures of Beano inspired cupcakes and asked me for something similar to celebrate Oscar’s 9th birthday. So here we are, 12 chocolate cupcakes, covered in chocolate ganache and topped with Oscar’s name as well as sugar-paste depictions of Dennis the Menace and Gnasher. Hope they hit the mark.

Football cupcakes

Jack came down to his granny’s by the sea for his 7th birthday. His mum messaged me and asked for 12 gluten free, dairy-free cup cakes topped with sugar reminders of his beloved (FA cup winning) Liverpool FC for the celebrations. Hope you all had a great day on the beach

Movie buff brownies

Rather than cupcakes, Kelly asked for 18 iced chocolate brownies for her movie-buff son’s 18th birthday this week. Here are some of them. A strict monochrome palate adds to the theme. Chocolate overdose for al his family and friends.

Giant Jungle Cupcake

Octavia asked me to make a cake to celebrate Tobias’s first birthday. She chose this giant cupcake with vanilla sponge inside and cheeky jungle characters in the buttercream topping. She was hoping for some wonderful photos as a memento of this very special day. She got them, and even better, the cake was not smashed to bits so she actually got to eat it!

Cupcakes for Nan’s birthday

Jess’s Nan has a big birthday today. We are not going to discuss numbers here. Anyway, Jess asked me to deliver 6 cupcakes, (3 coffee and walnut with delicious coffee mousseline topping and 3 vanilla with raspberry jam and topped with fresh raspberries) to help her Nan celebrate during lockdown. I piped some chocolate hearts and finished them off with a dusting of glitter before taking them round this afternoon.

Digestive biscuit cupcakes

Kelly’s dad is a serious digest biscuit addict (there are worse vices). It was his birthday this week and Kelly asked me to bake a batch of squidgy chocolate cupcakes each topped with a sugar (not real) digestive biscuit. Not that easy but after some playing around with sugar paste and colours I was quite pleased with the finished result. Not a real biscuit in sight!
