John and Maggie’s golden wedding

Maggie and John celebrated 50 years of marriage this weekend with an informal garden party for their friends. They chose a lemon layer cake iced with sugar models of the three things they felt represented them the best.. their first car a Morris 1000 Traveller, their joint passion for gardening and their beloved dog Matt. There is a very subtle nod to the goldenness of their anniversary in the colour of the writing and trim but nobody is really counting are they? Congratulations to you both.

French flags and whiskey

Another 70th birthday! This time for John who really loves going to France, very much enjoys his whisky and is a keen bird watcher. A flag, a bottle and some flying bird silhouettes brought it all together. Underneath is a jam and buttercream filled vanilla sponge.

Golfing Girls celebration

Pam had a few days away with her old friends to celebrate her big birthday. Ann surprised her with this lemon layer cake carved into a golf hole. I gather you all had a fabulous time.. I suspect the noise level was pretty high at dinner that night!

The Tiger who came to Tea

‘Sophie opened the door and there was a big, furry, stripy tiger’….The Tiger that Came to Tea is Arthur’s favourite book and so for his third birthday his dad asked me for a cake on that theme. I loved doing this! There is a chocolate layer cake under the tablecloth, a real mini chocolate cake on the table and everything else is made from sugar. I hope you enjoyed eating it as much as I enjoyed making it Arthur.

Golf and railway cake

Ian and his twin brother celebrated their 70th birthday together this weekend. Ian has spent a lifetime playing golf so his chocolate seven was decorated as a golf hole (big dogleg right!). His brother on the other hand is a railway enthusiast and builds model trains so his gluten free lemon cake zero has a track with a sugar steam locomotive on it. I hope you enjoyed your weekend chaps.

Number One Giraffe

Little Chloe loves pictures of animals, particularly giraffes, lions and monkeys. She also is extremely good at finding the hidden ladybirds and bees in the pages of her picture books. She had her first birthday party last week and what better than to decorate a number one cake with jungle animals for her. Happy birthday gorgeous girl.

Classic Car

Rosemary and Derek wanted a memorable cake for their son’s 60th birthday. They chose a Victoria sandwich cake in the shape of classic sports car. We added personalised number plates and some silver lustre to make it sparkle. I hope it went down well Rosemary, it was great fun to make.

Quilt makers cake

Kens wife Elizabeth is a keen quilter and he asked if I could bake her a special birthday cake with the sort of applique quilting squares that she sews as part of the design. Inside is a marzipan covered gluten-free fruit cake.

Taylor Swift

Jackie’s daughter is a ‘Swifty’ and has tickets for her upcoming concert in London. She had to talk me through exactly what was needed for a Taylor Swift birthday cake as I’m afraid Abba and Elton John are more my era. However, I can now recite all the album names plus their associated colours and symbols.. who knew?. Inside this creation is a layered chocolate, vanilla and chocolate orange sponge. I hope this cuts it Jackie, it was great fun to do.

Golfing theme

Mary has made a lovely fruit cake for her friend’s birthday but asked my if I would ice it with a golfing theme. The cake looked and smelled delicious when I opened it up Mary, hope it is a success.
