Anemone diamond wedding

Another diamond wedding anniversary with sugar flowers to match the bridal bouquet of 60 years ago. This time the flowers are lovely purple anemones which I loved making. Inside is a fresh lemon and buttercream layer cake. The cake was a surprise to Margaret and Mike from their family. I think we managed to keep the secret. Congratulations

Roses for a Diamond Wedding

Jan and Julian have been married for 60 years. They have been on a lovely cruise with their family and are now having a party for their friends. Jan carried beautiful orange and yellow roses on her wedding day so here they are again, 60 years on as part of her cake. Inside is a rich fruit cake covered in home made almond paste. Delicious

Avatar cake

Grace is a fan of the Avatar films and asked me to make a cake for her 11th birthday. This is a chocolate fudge layer cake covered in midnight blue fondant and decorated to look a bit like the forests in the film. Her mum got hold of an avatar cut out and I made a sugar planet to back it up. I think the result was quite effective

Ted’s football cake

Ted’s birthday always falls in the summer holidays and Trish asked me to make him a special cake for his 9th birthday. Underneath the Man U colours is a chocolate sponge filled with sticky chocolate ganache. I understand that the family made short work of it. Happy birthday Ted.

Florists Shop

Back in the day, Tara’s godmother was a well known florist in Covent Garden. For her 80th birthday celebrations, Tara asked me to make Isabel a fruit cake (with homemade almond paste) depicting the shop. Tara found an old black and white photo of the property which I did my best to copy. Tara also needed me to feature a pig in the design … a long standing family joke. So here it is. I hope your godmother recognises it Tara and that you all have a lovely day.

Cupcakes and roses

Jack and Jess decided on a cup cake wedding cake with a small sponge topper cake for the stand. Jess made the cupcakes but asked me to pipe the buttercream as cream flowers, and also to make the top tier with some big white sugar roses and daisies on the top. Jess added her own little flowers to the cup cakes and I think the finished result looked lovely. A great joint effort and congratulations to you both.

Hydrangeas and roses

On a warm but rather soggy and windy morning I delivered this cake to the marquee for Victoria’s wedding. The cake was to be the desert for the wedding breakfast so it was a layered fresh lemon curd lemon sponge with white chocolate buttercream. Delicate sugar hydrangeas and roses formed the main decoration for this ‘naked’ cake. And of course, the sun came out in the afternoon. Congratulations to you both

Double 80th birthday celebrations

Libby and her twin brother Richard, turned 80 this summer so I made this open book cake with a page for each of them featuring their wide range of interests over the years. Libby loves her cat, had a career in teaching and used to dance the night away. Richard was a plumber, a cyclist and a sailor. Inside is a lemon cake filled with fresh lemon curd.

Sweet overload

Rather a last minute request from Oren’s mum for this Victoria sponge layered with jam and buttercream and smothered in Oren’s favourite sweets. It was the centre piece for his 7th birthday party – nothing like providing a major sugar rush for a room full of excited 7 year olds!
