Just some of this years Christmas baking
Tiered 40th birthday cake in pink
Ann and Ian’s daughter was having a big birthday party so she needed a lot of cake. She dis not want her name or age on the cake so we went for a girly cake in three shades of pink with roses and a big bow. In order to please everyone, the bottom ‘parcel’ was plain Madeira cake filed with jam, the middle was filled chocolate and the top a filled lemon cake. It had to travel 100 miles or so to the party, but I think it made it in one piece.
Christening cake with Train
Sue wanted a non traditional cake for her grandson Anton’s Christening party. He is 2 and loves trains and trucks, particularly Thomas. Chocolate was the request so I just topped the big sticky square cake with an engine and trucks, also made of iced chocolate cake and piped with his name.

Murder mystery birthday party cake
Ella and Poppy are both 18. They organised a joint birthday party in the form of a murder mystery evening. Gooey chocolate formed the basis of this themed cake covered in sugar murder weapons and of course, blood!
Joint birthday cake for a new mum and a rugby fan
Roisin and Ian shared a birthday weekend. Or has a beautiful new baby girl and Ian is a Leicester Tigers supporter. So a chocolate sponge with icing and sugar neckwear to reflect both. Simple!

Book-lover
Sue wanted a cake for a friend with a milestone birthday. There was to be a big party for both adults and children and she wanted a variety of cake to cover all tastes. So as there were two numbers involved, we had the 6 in carrot cake and the 5 in sticky chocolate. The birthday girl is a serious book-lover and rather than any written message, we went for 65 little books, all made of sugar scattered over the cake. I had a lovely message from Sue after the party to say that the cake had been a huge success and that the books had been carefully counted by the children before being devoured and that almost the whole cake had been eaten by the end of the evening. Fab.

Hockey pitch cake
Irene’s grand daughter is a keen hockey player. Her favourite colours are pink and purple and she loves chocolate cake. So we iced a gooey chocolate sponge in the palest of greens and then piped the hockey pitch in pink. Sugar goal posts and a birthday message and we are all done

Multigenerational celebration cake
Mo and Paul’s family are in the middle of a momentous year with big birthdays new babies and multiple successes through members of all generations. In spite of being in the midst of unpacking following their recent house move, Mo and Paul are hosting a whole family get together and wanted this double cake to get the party started. Fresh lemon filled cake on one side and chocolate fudge on the other should keep everyone happy. Have a great weekend everyone.

Party girl!
Alison provided the topper, candles and diamanté ribbons so that all I had to do was bake a triple layer chocolate and cover it in fondant. Add some lace quilting and a lustre finish and Bob’s your uncle. A 21st birthday cake ready for an evening barbecue party.

Flying and golf
I have been doing a brisk line in special interest cakes. This one was for a British Airways pilot who loves his golf. Thank you for providing the model aircraft (phew!)
