Fearn’s family love owls and this year her birthday party has taken on the owl theme. Fearn’s grandparents always organise her cake and asked me to make this one with a rather solemn looking but endearing sugar owl perched on the top.

There is a double birthday in this family so Jenny ordered a gluten free vanilla sponge filled with jam and buttercream so that everyone can celebrate together. Decorated with tartan ribbon, thistles and flags and of course a jolly highland cow in the middle, I hope this is Scottish enough for you all!

Margot’s birthday has come round again. This year she wanted her and her five best friends singing their hearts out around a microphone. All on top of a sticky chocolate fudge layer cake. her mum sent me photos of them all so that I could at least get them mildly recognisable! I know you had a sleepover with them all Margot, I hope the rest of your day was as much fun.

It is Hannah’s birthday today. She has had a really rough year dealing with a diagnosis and then treatment for breast cancer. But, has had the all clear (hurray) and has become quite the local celebrity with her fundraising and appearance in the new cancer research fundraising campaign on national television. Here is her cake festooned with the iconic pink ribbons for breast cancer awareness. Happy Birthday Hannah, you are a star.

Iris is 9 and chose a picture of a stripy pink cake for me to copy for her birthday. This is pink sponge layered with white buttercream and decorated in striped buttercream. On top are some delicious macarons (courtesy of the sugar glaze bakery) and a handful of strawberries, Yum. I hope it was pink and stripy enough Iris!

Sam’s latest passion is Minecraft and his mum asked me to make a cake with some of the characters and weapons on the top. She showed me some pictures of the sort of thing that she wanted. Underneath the pixelated icing is a sticky chocolate fudge cake. Everything is of course edible… just right for a party of 6 year olds.
