100th birthday countryside cake

So this was lovely to do. Karen’s dad was 100 this weekend. He is very fit and is still a keen walker, loves the garden and enjoys bird watching. Karen sent me a photo and I did my best to recreate him sitting on a garden bench in his walking boots amongst the flowers with his binoculars on his lap. A countryside scene around the side, completed the picture. Underneath it all is a rich fruit cake which meant I could spend plenty of time getting the decorations right. Great fun. Very many congratulations

Vegetable patch birthday

Teresas mum is 90. She wanted a special cake decorated as a vegetable garden. Just one snag, her mum doesn’t like icing. So we left one corner of this lemon cake uniced, put some biscuit crumb gravel in the top and made a sugar garden shed to cover it up. Hey presto. The rest has chocolate soil and little sugar vegetables. Hope we’ve kept everyone happy!

John and Maggie’s golden wedding

Maggie and John celebrated 50 years of marriage this weekend with an informal garden party for their friends. They chose a lemon layer cake iced with sugar models of the three things they felt represented them the best.. their first car a Morris 1000 Traveller, their joint passion for gardening and their beloved dog Matt. There is a very subtle nod to the goldenness of their anniversary in the colour of the writing and trim but nobody is really counting are they? Congratulations to you both.

Jane’s flower garden

Beth’s mum is a keen gardener and fills her garden with beautiful flowers. Here is her birthday cake – a jam and buttercream filled vanilla sponge decorated as a pretty garden with pink roses climbing up the sides. All edible and a treat for the family party
