Roses, freesias and white chocolate

Sarah and Steve sing in the same choir as me. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last weekend with friends and family from all over the world. Sarah wanted a lemon and white chocolate sponge big enough to feed everyone and decorated with the yellow roses and freesias that she carried in her bouquet 40 years ago. I also made a few gluten free lemon and white chocolate cup cakes for those that preferred them. Very many congratulations to you both.

Ribbons and Roses

David contacted me a few weeks ago as his family were congregating in Milford for a holiday by the sea to celebrate his wife’s birthday. He had seen a cake a bit like this one on my cakesonsea.com website and asked if I could do one for him. I delivered it to their holiday house on a beautiful sunny day, I hope you all had a lovely time.

Jane’s flower garden

Beth’s mum is a keen gardener and fills her garden with beautiful flowers. Here is her birthday cake – a jam and buttercream filled vanilla sponge decorated as a pretty garden with pink roses climbing up the sides. All edible and a treat for the family party

Cake for a cancer research champion

It is Hannah’s birthday today. She has had a really rough year dealing with a diagnosis and then treatment for breast cancer. But, has had the all clear (hurray) and has become quite the local celebrity with her fundraising and appearance in the new cancer research fundraising campaign on national television. Here is her cake festooned with the iconic pink ribbons for breast cancer awareness. Happy Birthday Hannah, you are a star.

Roses for a Diamond Wedding

Jan and Julian have been married for 60 years. They have been on a lovely cruise with their family and are now having a party for their friends. Jan carried beautiful orange and yellow roses on her wedding day so here they are again, 60 years on as part of her cake. Inside is a rich fruit cake covered in home made almond paste. Delicious

Cupcakes and roses

Jack and Jess decided on a cup cake wedding cake with a small sponge topper cake for the stand. Jess made the cupcakes but asked me to pipe the buttercream as cream flowers, and also to make the top tier with some big white sugar roses and daisies on the top. Jess added her own little flowers to the cup cakes and I think the finished result looked lovely. A great joint effort and congratulations to you both.

Hydrangeas and roses

On a warm but rather soggy and windy morning I delivered this cake to the marquee for Victoria’s wedding. The cake was to be the desert for the wedding breakfast so it was a layered fresh lemon curd lemon sponge with white chocolate buttercream. Delicate sugar hydrangeas and roses formed the main decoration for this ‘naked’ cake. And of course, the sun came out in the afternoon. Congratulations to you both

Ballroom Dancers

Maureen turned 90 this week and she asked me to make a rich fruit cake to share with her family and friends. When I went to visit her she showed me some wonderful pictures of the glamorous ballroom dancing days. We chose a striking colour scheme of red and black to reflect her love of dance and her favourite roses. Very many congratulations Maureen, Happy Birthday.

Monogramed golden wedding cake

I was lucky enough to be invited to Julie and Derek’s golden wedding party. We had a lovely dinner finished off with this lemon sponge, layered with fresh lemon curd and buttercream and decorated with yellow roses and a golden monogram. A lovely start to their weekend of celebrations.

Congratulations to you both.

Table tennis and scrabble

I made a sailing boat birthday cake for Don and a year on, he rang me to request a reciprocal arrangement for his wife. Sheila’s hobbies include table tennis, Scrabble, Rummikub and her garden, so here is the jam filled vanilla sponge that we came up with.
