100th birthday cake

Gwen had her super-milestone birthday coming up and Chris asked if I could make a cake for her mum to share with her family as well as some matching cupcakes that she could distribute among her friends. Chris had seen a cake on this Facebook page that she liked the style of and asked for similar decorations on a jam and vanilla sponge. So here we are. Very many congratulations Gwen and many happy returns.

Pretty pink flowers

Jason asked me to make a cake for his mum’s 70th birthday. He found a picture of a design he liked, sent it to me and we based the cake on that changing the colours and flowers to suit. His mum loves pink lilies so this jam and buttercream layered Victoria sponge was iced in white and then covered in pretty pink flowers and a little bit of sparkle.

Joint heroes birthday party

There was a bit of a drama surrounding the cake for this joint birthday party and I was asked rather last minute to make one to fit the bill. Three Dulcie, Clayton and Barney were all sharing a 5th birthday but with very different heroes and heroines so half Frozen and half Spiderman was the compromise. Inside was a victoria sponge layered with jam and buttercream. Hope you all had a lovely day.

chocolate and strawberry cake

Clare asked me to make a chocolate cake for her her mums birthday. The cake in the picture she showed me had a chocolate collar which I have to say, I have never been asked to do before. But hurray! it all worked out. So this is a chocolate cake filled and covered with chocolate buttercream and finished with a chocolate lattice and chocolate-dipped strawberries. I hope the terrible weather doesn’t dampen your celebrations.

Cats, sharks and seaweed…

A little while ago I was asked to make a slightly off the wall cake for an informal wedding. The Groom has a deep interest in sharks, with his particular favourite being Hammerheads. The Bride is fascinated by edible seaweed….. and they have a cat. So I was charged with getting them all onto this layered Victoria sponge cake. Roses might have been more conventional. I understand it went down very well. Congratulations to you all.

Classic Car

Rosemary and Derek wanted a memorable cake for their son’s 60th birthday. They chose a Victoria sandwich cake in the shape of classic sports car. We added personalised number plates and some silver lustre to make it sparkle. I hope it went down well Rosemary, it was great fun to make.

Taylor Swift

Jackie’s daughter is a ‘Swifty’ and has tickets for her upcoming concert in London. She had to talk me through exactly what was needed for a Taylor Swift birthday cake as I’m afraid Abba and Elton John are more my era. However, I can now recite all the album names plus their associated colours and symbols.. who knew?. Inside this creation is a layered chocolate, vanilla and chocolate orange sponge. I hope this cuts it Jackie, it was great fun to do.

Climbing wall

Theo was having a very exciting 6th birthday including the installation of a climbing wall in his bedroom. His Mum asked me to make this vanilla jam and buttercream sponge in the shape of a climbing wall, complete with Theo clambering up it for his party. How wonderful. Climb carefully Theo.

Richard’s vegetable patch

Richard is 80 this weekend. He is a keen gardener and his wife Liz asked me to make this surprise vegetable patch cake for their weekend away with the family. Inside is a vanilla sponge layered with jam and buttercream. On top are sugar vegetables (yes even sprouts) set in chocolate soil with a pair of wellies, a spade and a jolly robin on the top. I hope you all have a lovely time.

Hearts and Cosmetics

Tia’s 16th birthday is later this week and she is off to New York. So her family are celebrating this afternoon and her Gran asked me to make this heart-shaped vanilla sponge, layered with jam and buttercream, featuring her favourite e.l.f. cosmetics

Have a god birthday and fabulous trip Tia
