Kirsty’s mum is 60 today. Kirsty tells me that her mum is a fantastic needlewoman so this is a three layer vanilla sponge iced with some of the tools of her trade. Everything (except the board) is edible. Have a lovely day everyone.

Raffy’s 11th birthday rather crept up on his mum so I had a somewhat last minute request for an emergency cake. This triple layered vanilla sponge is sandwiched with jam and buttercream and iced to reflect Raffy’s love of sailing and his beloved RS Tera dinghy. Add a 3D wavy sea, some gulls and a bit of sugar rope, Suitably nautical . Happy birthday Raffy.
Katie’s mum had a landmark birthday and Katie asked me for a cake that would reflect her mother’s love of gardening rather than her age (your secret is safe with me). We came up with this pretty flowerpot cake. Inside the flowerpot is a lemon curd filled sponge, toped with chocolate soil and decorated with sugar roses and a sugar trowel. Add a sugar plant label with the birthday message and there we have it. Really enjoyed making this one, hope your mum has a lovely day Katie.

It is a significant birthday for Derek today and as it has fallen during another’s period of lockdown, a box of cupcakes to share with friends on the doorstep seems the best solution. Derek loves his golf and has just bought a magnificent new BMW which is his pride and joy (after his wife of course). So I have personalised six squidgy chocolate and six zingy lemon cakes for the big day. Have fun Derek.

Mike has a big birthday today but we are in Lockdown again. No party allowed so Val wanted to surprise him with a box of cup cakes that could be left for his friends who would be dropping off cards and presents. They have just bought a motor home and Val wanted to theme the cakes accordingly. So here are a dozen elderflower and lemon cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, each topped with a hand made sugar camper-van, complete with Mike’s initial and the registration plate. I left them outside for Mike to find this morning. Have a very happy day.

Val very kindly sent me this email almost before I had got home

Job done!
Hannah’s big birthday is today. Her mum asked for a big chocolatey chocolate cake which reflected the loves in Hannah’s life. Her husband, her two little girls and of course Murphy the dog. My detail was to include all the family names, Murphy and his paraphernalia, Hannah’s walking boots, two pairs of little pink shoes and a big pair of men’s shoes and then maybe wine, sunshine, flowers etc etc…. Well, there is a limit to be what can be fixed onto a sticky chocolate cake on a hot day but I hope this is what you wanted Sue. Happy birthday Hannah
It is Sue’s 70th birthday and her friends wanted a cake to celebrate her life as a dancer and love of Motown music. So I decorated this chocolate cake as a vintage record player complete with sugar LP and dancer silhouette. Everything edible except for the board, ribbon and one wire running through the stylus arm. One of the party girls is gluten intolerant so I made the turn table under the record from a big round gluten free chocolate brownie.
Afterwards, Judy wrote me a lovely email
