Tracey’s friend Gill is a tennis player and has a gorgeous little Jack Russell, Scamp. It was her birthday and Tracey asked for a lemon layer cake featuring both things, I think Scamp has been a little rejuvenated in the process, but hey ho. Hope you had a good time girls.
Karen is a seasoned, highly experienced sea swimmer and has a lovely beach hut at Milford from which to leap into the freezing foam. Her husband was hoping to organise an ‘open hut’ day for her birthday but the terrible weather forced some last minute rearrangements. Never mind, this is a chocolate cake filled with dark chocolate ganache, shaped and iced to form a (rough) replica of their little seaside haven, complete with sand and sea. The ‘decking’ under the hut is a gluten free brownie, just in case (delicious whether you ned to be gluten free or not). I really hope you had a lovely day Karen, who cares about a little bit of damp? Just eat cake!
Jason is 50 this week. He has three passions (that I know about anyway). Number one, polo, number two, Hurst Castle. His third passion, Dawn asked me to make him a birthday cake to celebrate his milestone. So this 4 layered vanilla sponge is filled with jam and butter cream and iced with a vague representation of Jason riding his polo pony on the top and a seascape including the castle, lighthouse and the Hurst ferry around the sides. Happy birthday Jason.
Another of these popular chocolate box cakes. This one is for Nigel who is staying down here for a week with his multigeneration family to celebrate his 60th birthday. As well as being a lifelong chocolate lover, he is a passionate Manchester United supporter and Angela asked me to incorporate a nod to his favourite team into this 5 layer vanilla sponge cake. Inside is buttercream and jam, outside plenty of red amongst the chocolates piled high.
Football crazy Dylan was visiting his grandparents at the seaside for the day on his 11th birthday. Angie asked for a cake to cut after the family barbecue and a walk on the beach. Underneath the icing is a spherical vanilla sponge layered with jam and buttercream.
Di is a stalwart of the bowls club and her neighbour Julie wanted to surprise her with this iced vanilla sponge cake for her birthday.
Karen’s dad is 90 today. A life long cricket enthusiast, this cake should fit the bill. Inside is a triple layered gluten-free lemon sponge filled with home made lemon curd. Hope that the sun shone for your outdoor celebrations and congratulations everyone.
Karen was kind enough to write to me afterwards
Dad had a fantastic time and the cake was out of this world! Everyone loved it, probably the best gluten free cake we’ve had!
My dad loved the design of the cake and got really choked up when he saw it 🙂
Thank you for doing such a wonderful job Liz. I can honestly say I couldn’t thank you enough for the taste, the design everything.
Paul is a cycling fanatic and today is Paul’s special birthday. Clare asked me for a vanilla sponge cake featuring a sugar version of one of his many bicycles to celebrate. Hope the day goes well.
Raffy’s 11th birthday rather crept up on his mum so I had a somewhat last minute request for an emergency cake. This triple layered vanilla sponge is sandwiched with jam and buttercream and iced to reflect Raffy’s love of sailing and his beloved RS Tera dinghy. Add a 3D wavy sea, some gulls and a bit of sugar rope, Suitably nautical . Happy birthday Raffy.
It is a significant birthday for Derek today and as it has fallen during another’s period of lockdown, a box of cupcakes to share with friends on the doorstep seems the best solution. Derek loves his golf and has just bought a magnificent new BMW which is his pride and joy (after his wife of course). So I have personalised six squidgy chocolate and six zingy lemon cakes for the big day. Have fun Derek.
