It is Stuart’s big birthday today. No Prizes for guessing his musical hero! This sparkly Purple Rain inspired celebration cake contains a vanilla sponge cake layered with jam and buttercream. Happy birthday Stuart.
Rufus is 16 today and a snapshot of his bedroom seemed an apt way to celebrate. Here he is with his scooter and skateboard, the computer keyboard, the pizza, discarded clothes and all the empty bowls and dishes, oh, and Jumble who spends much of her time at the bottom of his bed. Somewhere underneath is a vanilla sponge cake. Happy birthday Rufus.
Octavia asked me to make a cake to celebrate Tobias’s first birthday. She chose this giant cupcake with vanilla sponge inside and cheeky jungle characters in the buttercream topping. She was hoping for some wonderful photos as a memento of this very special day. She got them, and even better, the cake was not smashed to bits so she actually got to eat it!
Shaun asked me to make this cake for Sam’s birthday today. Inside is a sticky chocolate sponge, outside is fondant icing piped with his beloved Lotus logo. Happy birthday Sam.
Michael’s friend Lynne loves chocolate so this triple-layer, ganache filled, chocolate-fudge-covered chocolate sponge was the obvious choice. Tie it up with a sugar bow. Just the ticket.
Paul is a cycling fanatic and today is Paul’s special birthday. Clare asked me for a vanilla sponge cake featuring a sugar version of one of his many bicycles to celebrate. Hope the day goes well.
Kirsty’s mum is 60 today. Kirsty tells me that her mum is a fantastic needlewoman so this is a three layer vanilla sponge iced with some of the tools of her trade. Everything (except the board) is edible. Have a lovely day everyone.
Fearn’s grandparents asked me to make a special cake for her third birthday. In common with most three year olds, Fearn is a big fan of Peppa, so what better than a vanilla sponge featuring her piggy heroine jumping in a chocolate muddy puddle. Lots of primary coloured flowers, ducks and balloons and it was huge fun to make. Fearn’s mum sent me a picture of her enjoying the cake to which she had added the candles. Glad it went down well everyone.
Raffy’s 11th birthday rather crept up on his mum so I had a somewhat last minute request for an emergency cake. This triple layered vanilla sponge is sandwiched with jam and buttercream and iced to reflect Raffy’s love of sailing and his beloved RS Tera dinghy. Add a 3D wavy sea, some gulls and a bit of sugar rope, Suitably nautical . Happy birthday Raffy.
Katie’s mum had a landmark birthday and Katie asked me for a cake that would reflect her mother’s love of gardening rather than her age (your secret is safe with me). We came up with this pretty flowerpot cake. Inside the flowerpot is a lemon curd filled sponge, toped with chocolate soil and decorated with sugar roses and a sugar trowel. Add a sugar plant label with the birthday message and there we have it. Really enjoyed making this one, hope your mum has a lovely day Katie.
