Roses, freesias and white chocolate

Sarah and Steve sing in the same choir as me. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last weekend with friends and family from all over the world. Sarah wanted a lemon and white chocolate sponge big enough to feed everyone and decorated with the yellow roses and freesias that she carried in her bouquet 40 years ago. I also made a few gluten free lemon and white chocolate cup cakes for those that preferred them. Very many congratulations to you both.

Cruise Liner Wedding Cake

Claire and her new husband John met on a cruise on the Queen Mary 2. They got married today and asked for this layered lemon cake to be iced to reflect their love of the sea, topped with a sugar cruise ship. They are booked on another trip on the QM2 for their honeymoon. Congratulations to you both, I hope you had a wonderful day.

Rock ‘n’ Roll

I made a cake for Pam’s birthday a few months ago and now it is her husband’s turn to celebrate his landmark. A slightly unusual request for a sponge cake with one chocolate layer and one lemon layer, sandwiched with chocolate ganache. John is a life long rock and roll fan so what better than a couple of rock guitars and plenty of edible glitter.

Anne’s Sailing cake

Anne was so excited to have won her first sailing trophy that she asked me to make her a celebratory cake. She invited her fellow sailors round for a soiree in her garden and finished off with this lemon sponge cake decorated with her dinghy. Well done Anne.

John and Maggie’s golden wedding

Maggie and John celebrated 50 years of marriage this weekend with an informal garden party for their friends. They chose a lemon layer cake iced with sugar models of the three things they felt represented them the best.. their first car a Morris 1000 Traveller, their joint passion for gardening and their beloved dog Matt. There is a very subtle nod to the goldenness of their anniversary in the colour of the writing and trim but nobody is really counting are they? Congratulations to you both.

lemon and rosemary macaron cake

I had a rather last minute call from Sarah who needed an emergency cake for her friend’s 60th birthday. She had a topper all lined up but thus far the cake was missing! So in the end we agreed on a lemon and rosemary sponge layered with buttercream, fresh lemon curd and fresh raspberries and topped with macarons and more raspberries. Some sprigs of rosemary from my garden finished the decorations off and we got it done in time.. phew

Later, Sarah sent me a photo of the cake after it was cut. Thankyou, glad it went down well

Golfing Girls celebration

Pam had a few days away with her old friends to celebrate her big birthday. Ann surprised her with this lemon layer cake carved into a golf hole. I gather you all had a fabulous time.. I suspect the noise level was pretty high at dinner that night!

Golf and railway cake

Ian and his twin brother celebrated their 70th birthday together this weekend. Ian has spent a lifetime playing golf so his chocolate seven was decorated as a golf hole (big dogleg right!). His brother on the other hand is a railway enthusiast and builds model trains so his gluten free lemon cake zero has a track with a sugar steam locomotive on it. I hope you enjoyed your weekend chaps.

Sunshine and flowers

Linda has asked me to make several cakes for her family over the years. Now it is her turn. Her husband contacted me and requested a lemon layer cake to celebrate Linda’s 70th birthday. She is a bit of a sun worshipper and loves her garden. Geoff was very specific about there being sugar dahlias and daisies on the cake as well as her sun-cream and sunglasses, so here we are. I delivered it to Ray’s Italian Kitchen ready for her party this weekend, Hope you all had a good time.

Double birthday celebration

Margaret and Alan both have their birthdays just two weeks apart. This year they had one big party to celebrate a bit of a milestone at Rays in Milford. They asked me to make this very personalised two tier cake to share with their friends after the meal. The bottom tier is for Margaret – a fresh lemon curd and buttercream layer cake decorated with flowers and butterflies. The top tier is Alan’s – a carrot cake filled with cream cheese frosting and decorated to reflect his love of playing golf. I know you had a lovely day. Happy birthday to you both.
